put the lights on the tree.....

I was told, while sipping eggnog on a green bench in the dowtown district of my city, that the red dress i was wearing at the time reminded my friend of christmas. Perhaps it was the red fabric with tiny white and tree- like details that echoed the cider and evergreen of the season. It has a lovely shape, very boxy yet short enough to where its very feminine. It was my sister's dress that she picked up from the thrift store and lent me just for the night.I wore it with my black ankle boots and black gold owl clasp clutch from 1957 that I got at an antique store nearly two years ago.

The last ginger lozenge.

Gray textured passed down hat, glossy brunette braids, red pattered lumber-jack-ish button down, tapered jeans and the key, the absolute necessity, the soil on which this entire outfit is rooted.....the tucked in shirt. Tuck it in, tuck it in, its imperative that you tuck your button downs in. It looks so much nicer, so fashion forward, yet such a nostalgic nod to the styles of the past. This look also reminds me of what a certain sufjan might wear while he plucks on his lap-harp in the woods.

The travel hound.

I look like I should be photographing the white icing tops of the Swiss alps and drinking great batches of hot-cocoa at the ski lodge. This look is an old one: The camel oxfords, the gray beret(reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde) the vintage sweater with its elegant navy and red details and leather bag and waist belt tying it all together.

La, La, Lacoste!

I awoke with a throat as sore as a marathon runners' quadriceps. To uplift my weary morale I decided to go to the half-off day sale that occurs every Wednesday come rain or shine or sore-throat. To my Surprise I hit the cardigan jackpot, not only did I get a nice sky blue double pocket generic cardi for myself, but two genuine Lacoste Cardigans one in navy and the other in brown for some gifts. I have always admired that little gator for sitting so pleasantly on the front of those cardigans, nice little fellow.

Preppy Pastels.

Pastels have graced the delicate bodies of many a collegiate kid. Pink cardigans, pale blue button downs and sparkling white trousers have embodied the east coast preparatory spirit since Amory Blaine first grazed the lawn of Princeton. Plaids, scarves, lavender shorts, Sperry top-siders and saddle shoes, lay elegantly aligned for the spring semester. Vampire weekend is the modern image of this style, evoking memories of marble dormitories and midnight cafes. As you can see their style incorporates poppy stripes and soft plaids, vibrant cardigans and starched button downs. Finely dressed. I got my own Pastel pink cardigan and contrasting polka-dot tank to honor these boys. I picked up the festive shades for a quarter at my thrift shop!

The Girl.

I mixed the Flirty gauze layers of a lacy dress with the firm masculine qualities of a blazer. Nothing like layering genre's and texture for a look that's anything but average. The folk floral scarf is positively detailed, an easy way to add pzazz and interest to any outfit.

mocha foam knit.

I love this little knit. It has bold texture and a beautiful leaf and pearl detail on each shoulder. Wam Bam! Perfect for chilly November evenings.

the little saint.

Shaundra is wearing an outfit that sprung from the creative canals of her very own brain. She has a unique way of paring an eclectic blue print jumper with a rather classic(criss crossed detail) white tank. The black "ked-like" shoes were purchased at the thrift store along with the jumper. Perfect for shooting hoops or just strolling.

Winter Coat.

Today was the first day I could feel the cold, taste the cinnamon on the wind, smell the corn husks of the harvest and breathe in the scent of holiday spirit! I pulled out my winter coat, which I bought on sale in the balmy month of June. Its a sort-of take on the classic toggle coat with an extra large, extra dramatic, extra romantic hood!

The Simple Striped Sea Shirt.

Brings back images of Pop-eye, Captains courageous, Coco Chanel, and the sea! The classic three quarter length black and white(or navy and white) striped sailor shirt is a wardrobe staple. Because the colors are so versatile, you can wear this piece with nearly everything but it looks especially exquisite with a pair of navy tapered trousers. Aye, Aye!

Safari Jumper!

Its amazing what can be found in-between the rusty aisles of a second hand shop. Crackled china, dark and velvet framed clown portraits, stained sweat shirts and on the rarest of occasion, the perfect fitting little safari jumper! The print on the fabric is absolutley stunning with its intense color, geometric qaulity and whimsical flourishes. You simply cannot find this little "beaut" at forever 21, no matter how hard you pray! Pair it with brown ankle booties and a classic navy blazer.Modern girl.
